Poster

Poster: "Are you REALLY ok?"

I created a propaganda poster utilizing skills in Adobe Illustrator. This poster included a self-portrait and expressed a cause that I care about. I started by taking inspiration from posters like the one below of Che Guevara. I like how this poster utilized minimal colors that draw the viewers' attention. After viewing other posters for inspiration, I searched my photo library to find an image of myself that conveyed the message I was trying to tell. I came across a recent image of myself posing in the heart of my hometown city. I feel like the image by itself conveyed happiness and confidence, which is what I wanted it to convey. I then took this image and imported it into Adobe Illustrator. From there I "Created an Outline" of the image. This feature tells the computer to create outlines of my image and leaves out the minor details. This created the desired minimal, but loud effect I wanted on my image.

I then added the words "Are you REALLY ok?". Each row of words had a different font to add more emotion. The words "Are you" are in a yellow color to give the words a neutral feeling. Those words are not what I want my audience to focus on the most. The word "REALLY" is in a red color and is larger than the other words to add a dramatic feeling. I wanted viewers to really think twice about the words. I choose to make the word "ok" in a blue color to symbolize emotion and feeling gloomy.

I hope this poster inspires others to check in on how their friends are actually doing. I hope to promote authentic, face-to-face interactions among friends. Ever since COVID-19, there has been a rise in people feeling lonely. I think part of this is due to people losing the skills to interact with one another. I have personally gone through hard times where I had friends who supported me and other hard times where I didn't have much support. This first-hand experience allows me to feel how important it is to have friends around you that you can depend on. Just because someone seems ok and like they have it all together does not mean that that is always the case. People need to learn to support one another and be there for one another again.
